Water Fitness And Muscle Relaxing Techniques

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

water fitnessWhile there are many techniques that can aid the muscles, one of the most beneficial is doing techniques in a pool.

They aid better in health and give a better chance of avoiding injury. Water is a crucial ingredient for the internal and external benefits.

Lean fitness programs also emphasize drinking lots of water because it helps with weight loss, reduces hunger and aids in flushing toxins out of the body so that skin is healthier and more radiant.

The recommended intake for water is 8 glasses a day; however, if a person is more active, they should increase their intake of water.

Using a pool to get fit is recommended for people who suffer from arthritis and even for pregnant mothers because it gives the body a buoyancy; thereby, eliminating the strain on the muscles and joints.

This is not to say you cannot get fit out of the pool, but this type of fitness simply eliminates a lot of the negatives that can occur when getting fit. Here are a few types of programs that emphasize water.

Water yoga is doing yoga in the water. It gives the benefits of yoga; increasing flexibility, stamina, toning, strength and aids the cardiovascular system, while the water helps to prevent the odds of injuring the body.

Water yoga has poses for flexibility, meditation and breathing. In order for the poses to be done properly, the water should be warm.

Another activity that can be done in the pool is aerobics. Stomach crunches can be done in the water by floating on the back and slowly bringing the legs toward the stomach. Other exercises include, jumping jacks, walking through the water and body stretching.

Working with weights can also be done in the water. Triceps and biceps curls can benefit any water fitness routine. Stretching can also be done in the water by simply facing the side of the pool, holding onto the concrete side of the pool and placing the feet on the side of the pool, then slowly lengthening the body.

However, make sure not to strain the muscles. Listen to the body and it will say how far to go.

Water is important for a person’s everyday life. It helps the internal workings of the body and can be used in external fitness activities as well.

Water fitness is also beneficial for individuals who are overweight, because it helps decrease strain on the joints.

Swimming laps can also be an amazing form of exercise, so no matter what exercise is chosen, water fitness should be used in regular fitness activities.

Friends Can Motivate You To Go Forward

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

fitnessThe world has learned that having some kind of physical activity is a healthy way to live.

Well, this is as old as time itself but in the recent years it has been popularized.

So now everyone knows it is good for both the body and the mind yet there aren’t that many people that are actually doing it.

Even though there are a lot of choices like weight lifting, resistance training, fitness, aerobics or pilates, people find excuses not to exercise.

Fitness is one of the greatest ways to keep your body into shape. It is very effective when it comes to fat burning and muscle toning. There are a variety of very different exercises that will allow everyone a great body workout.

Another great thing about fitness is that it doesn’t require any expensive fancy equipment or a gym membership. So anyone who feels that the gym is expensive or doesn’t have a gym near can do it at home.

Apparently this is not the real issue. The possibility of doing fitness at home is a general fact, and everyone knows that. The problem is the lack of motivation. What is important for achieving results with fitness or any other type of exercise is doing it for some period.

This is where the motivation plays its biggest part. In order to keep going you have to be motivated. You don’t feel like it but you have to, and this does not only happen to you, it is also happening to your girlfriends. To avoid this when exercising it is of vital importance to pick a target, to have a goal.

“I want to fit into those pants” or “I have to wear that dress” are great examples of picking a target. This will make you going for it even when you don’t feel like it.

Another great thing to do is to make your friends join you. Make them do fitness with you or follow the same program at home. This way you will not be alone in this and you will always have a support and additional motives.

What goes around comes around, so if you are the motivator once, next time it will be someone else, so everyone will have someone to motivate them when he is about to quit. That is what is so great about it. It turns out that the coffee gang can become the fitness gang…it’s up to you.

Teenage Girls Preventing Later Weight Problems With Exercise

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

teen exerciseThese days, it is very important for teenagers to look good all the time.

Because of fashion trends and television, more and more people are becoming aware of their appearance than ever.

This kind of pressure affects the young population since the media determines the concept of a perfect body.

Youngsters are now facing new eating disorders like bulimia, starvation, and overweight. This is the reason for which, many young girls engage in weight loss plans while others just fall in depression.

Whether young girls are facing real or induced weight disorders, it is necessary to take a look at the habits of teenagers.

Of course, many of the weight issues are genetic, but in most cases they are associated to bad habits. For that reason, exercise is a good option for you to prevent these problems.

A good reason to prevent weight problems with exercise is that the young adults don’t have to stick to rigorous diet programs.

Instead, they can exercise using different physical activities like sports and hobbies. For instance, they can use a bike, skates, or rollers to go somewhere whether that somewhere is the school or your friend’s house.

Another way to prevent weight problems is to spend less time in activities like videogames, chat, watching TV, and anything that requires no physical efforts.

A teenage girl may wonder how exercise positively changes her mood. The main aim here is that teenagers should consume their energies in some positive and healthy activities.

Young people should remember that all the food they eat transforms into nutrients and fat. However, teenagers are the only ones who determine if such fat transforms into energy or just additional weight.

Pick A Routine And Stick With It

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

weigth liftingIt is already a common knowledge that exercising is great for both, the body and the spirit. It is simply a healthier way of living.

It is recommended for everyone like people who want to get rid of their extra pounds, people with certain medical conditions, people who want to live a long and healthy life.

There are a lot of different types of exercises, different routines.

Weight lifting, resistance training, fitness, strength training, running and jogging, it seems like the list has no end. But it will all be for nothing if the exercises are not done the right way.

What is important is to pick a routine and stick with it until you get the desired results. Changing exercises and switching from one routine to another will only decrease your moral and motivation because you simply won’t be able to achieve something that will satisfy you. It will always seem to you that your time and efforts were for nothing.

Picking the right exercise type for you is of vital importance. And you should not worry if you are not very good at it at first. It is a routine, be patient and give it some time. Everything can be learned.

Pick the routine that you think that it will be the most fun for you. Pick the one that will give results and it will be easy to stick with it.

Why is it so important to do so?

Well everyone should know that nothing could be achieved with only one or few training sessions. It will take at least a month for the first visible results to appear and to get the desired results you have set as a goal. Sometimes much more time will be needed.

Also when it comes to setting your goal, you have to be realistic. You can’t expect miracles to happen. You should know what can be achieved and in how much time. If you are not realistic you will only get disappointed when you will realize that you could not achieve what you have set as a goal and you will quit.

What you will also have to do is being very consistent with your exercises. This means that you should not skip any sessions and always give your maximum effort.

After all you are only doing it for yourself. And remember the greater the amount of time and effort spent the better and faster the result you’ll get.

Six Mistakes That Make Fitness Fail

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

fitness mistakesFitness is a great way of staying into shape. It is excellent for fat burning, which makes it ideal for those with few extra pounds.

It is also a great way for toning and shaping the muscles and that is why fitness is the first choice for those that want to have a great body and those that do not want to bulk up.

But in order to achieve your goals you have to exercise the right way, otherwise it will all be for nothing.

There will be no results and you will end up quitting. Avoiding some of the most common mistakes that people make when doing their fitness routine is a great way to make fitness not to fail.

The first and probably the most common mistake that people make is the insufficient hydration. The body needs its water, especially when it is losing more than usual because of the exercises.

In the absence of water the body will keep the fat instead of burning it. This will make the whole fitness pointless, so drink a lot of water.

No warming up. Doing warm ups and stretching is essential for any kind of exercising especially fitness. No warming up may lead to injuries, muscle pain, or overstretched muscles. This will result with the inability to keep exercising and will also lead to a loss of potassium in the body. Again fitness will fail.

Another reason that can make fitness fail is too long pause between the sessions. No one says that a fitness session should be repeated every day in order to achieve something.

On the contrary, it is good and healthy to leave a day or two for your body to rest and for the muscles to grow, in between the sessions. But, a pause longer than two days, will make your body lose the rhythm.

It is a common mistake to wear the wrong type of shoes while exercising. They will easily make your feet get tired if they are not comfortable enough and therefore you will not be able to do your routine or you simply won’t be able to give the maximum of your effort.

The sudden stop – It is not good for the muscles and the body to suddenly stop when you are all tired and worn out. It will make the muscles to consecutively contract which again can result with injuries or muscle pain.

Fitness will definitely fail if you exercise on an empty stomach. If you do your session while you are hungry then you will eat the whole fridge when you are done. And this is surely something that you would like to avoid.

Keeping in mind the purpose and staying away from these mistakes is the right way to go.

Power Bars And Exercise – Wrong Combination

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

exerciseIt is well known that being healthy requires exercise and consumption of the right foods.

In order to look and feel good it is necessary to stick to both exercise and nutrition regimens that are appropriate for the body.

Surely, continuous but not excessive exercise is the foundation of any effective nutrition and fitness plan.

In this case, diets should be prescribed by professionals in order to change people’s eating habits and get the best of any exercise routine.

However, many people are not aware of their eating habits when exercising. Some people don’t think about finding a dietician when designing a nutritional plan.

Sometimes, such nutritional plans are not the most suitable for people since they are based on their busy routines. This is the case of power bars which are appealing to those people that don’t have enough time to consume regular food.

Power bars can be useful to increase metabolic rates given that it requires ingesting a small meal every 2 or 3 hours. These bars can give an extra shot of energy when exercising for hours. But, this can be a harmful habit if they are taken as replacements of meals.

It’s quite important to be moderate when consuming power bars. Power bars should be used as snacks which will complement a nutritional regimen and not as meal replacements.

Exercise must be followed by a conscious nutritional plan including fruits, vegetables, and meat. There is no way to consider that all power bars can provide proteins and carbohydrates available in real food.

5 Most Popular And Trendy Workout Programs Today

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Have you been working out in the gym for years and getting bored with the cardio on the treadmill, lifting weights in the circuit and then cardio on the elliptical?

Have you considered taking a class at your gym? You don’t have to take an aerobics class or step class because there are some very popular and very different ways to participate in a class and get an incredible workout.

We researched all the classes in the country over the past year and have come up with the five most trendy and popular classes. And they are popular for a reason!

1.Pole Dancing

In the past few years a trend in fitness has taken over the nation and fitness clubs everywhere and this trend is pole dancing. Yes pole dancing! Private clubs and public gyms are offering pole dancing classes as a fitness class as well as private studios.

( photo by Jon Frosdick )

Pole dancing classes began as a trend mainly for bachelorette parties and girls’ nights’ out for something different and now has become the latest fitness phenomenon.

Pole dancing lessons can burn up to 500 calories an hour and you will work muscle groups you never knew you had. You will have a whole new appreciation for women who utilize pole dancing for their living because it is extremely difficult and they make it look very easy.

Reviews from women who have tried the pole dancing phenomenon as a substitute to their normal workout regime have just raved about the results they have seen after only weeks of attending pole dancing classes. Women are saying they are becoming taught, tight and leaner than ever.

2.Zumba

Zumba has been around for nearly a decade however just recently in the past 5-7 years caught on to mainstream America and spread like wildfire among gyms and private fitness clubs.

The premise of Zumba is to dance your way to a fitter you. The classes are an hour long usually with a short warm up and a brief cool down at the conclusion of the class.

The idea behind Zumba is you are doing different dance routines throughout the hour so you literally don’t realize how hard you are working or, in some cases, how much pain you are in.

Zumba is most authentic when taught at a private studio that specializes in Zumba only, however many clubs and gyms around the country are incorporating Zumba classes into their already offered curriculum. There are also Zumba DVDs available for rent and purchase.

Zumba will build your endurance like you never thought possible and it will make you sweat like no other workout you have ever tried. Zumba will also leave you sore the next day as you are working muscle groups you have not worked in a long time.

There also is a national Zumba web site that explains and defines the trend for anyone who is interested.

3.Boot Camp

Boot camp is exactly what it sounds like. Boot Camp! It’s not just for the military anymore it has now invaded your gyms and workout facilities across the country. Boot camp can be run many different ways however one of the most common ways is for participants to grab a multitude of ‘props’ before class.

boot camp

Oftentimes you will grab a yoga ball, hand weights and barbells, and a mat and possibly a chair. The premise of a boot camp class is that you will work the same muscle groups for 1-2 songs.

For example, the teacher may have you place your palms facing backwards and you are facing forwards, on the seat part of the chair.

You may be instructed to do backward push-ups for either 30 seconds or maybe to the count of 30. Then you will switch and grab hand weights and put them over your head, dip them down behind you, for triceps for 30 seconds or for the count of 30.

Your teacher will incorporate one more exercise as the boot camp exercises are usually done in groups of three and you will gradually count your repetitions down to twenty, then down to ten, and so forth. All the while there will be heart-pulsing fun dance and techno music playing over the loudspeaker.

4.PX90

PX90 is the latest trend in fitness. PX90 is a series of DVD that you purchase and do at home in your own time. Equipment for the PX90 workout program consists of a chin up bar, push up stand, push up bar, resistance bands, a yoga mat and yoga blocks among other items.

The program is broken into weeks and offers the participant different exercises and different exercise plans for each week. Many participants who have used PX90 for the first time have said they have never moved their body so much and in so many different ways in their entire life!

The program when purchased also comes with meal suggestions for improved health and balanced nutrition while going through the PX90 fitness program.

Apparently the PX90 fitness program took more than a year to develop and some of the industry’s most respected fitness professionals were involved in the development of the PX90 program.

5.Spinning

While spinning has been around for decades it is now making huge breakthroughs into mainstream gyms as a very popular way to burn hundreds upon hundreds of calories.  There are many reasons spinning has finally made a breakthrough into the top 5 fitness programs in the country.

( photo by US Army Korea – IMCOM )

Spinning is extremely intense and is the number one workout that you feel like you have absolutely burned off every calorie possible. Spinning can be done throughout the year and is offered at nearly every gym in the country. It does take several weeks to build up tolerance to the bike seat and endurance to make it through the class.

**Note that kickboxing and pilates were very close.

Can Omega 3 Really Help You Lose Weight?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

fish oilAll the claims by producers and marketers of fish oil about the wondrous effects of a component of their products, Omega 3 fatty acids is enough to make anyone think that it is snake oil rather than fish oil they’re talking about!

You have likely read repeated claims that this is the one thing that will help you lose weight even as you continue to eat normally; even a high calorie intake.

So what is the real deal with Omega 3 or rather the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, to use the proper nomenclature?

In laboratory experiments conducted upon mice, it was seen that when fed a high calorie diet that included 8% fish oil rich in omega 3, gained less weight (by virtue of metabolizing more fat) than the other mice who are not given the omega 3 rich fish oil.

This study came to the conclusion that the group of mice that received the fish oil supplement demonstrated higher lipid metabolism.

The supplemented mice were also seen as having the activity of enzymes related to metabolism boosted significantly. Researchers saw an “up-regulation of intestinal lipid metabolism is associated with the anti-obesity effect of fish oil”.

A study conducted by the University of Georgia showed that Omega 3 “could affect adoptosis (programmed cell death) and significantly decrease the accumulation of fat in the preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner and the development (differentiation) of mature adipocytes in culture” according to the Journal of Nutrition.

An Australian study also found that in one study conducted on 75 overweight adults between the ages of 25 and 65 years, it was found that those who got a fish oil supplement lost more weight than those who didn’t, when supplemented by exercise.

So clearly there is something to this fish oil business, and even if one is skeptical about all its miraculous weight loss properties (as one rightly should be), even then you cannot ignore the several health giving properties that it has. It is heart friendly, and is known to keep your brain working better so really there are plenty of reasons to consider this.

However, if one thought that taking a fish oil supplement will miraculously help them shed the pounds without lifting a finger, they would be sadly mistaken.

Yes it is likely that Omega 3 may help give you just that little bit extra when you are doing everything else right and will help rather than actually instigate weight loss all by itself.
